I am just beginning to get back to going out with a camera. I am still walking with a stick but not quite so dependant on it. In April I was in Ripon North Yorkshire when I visited the Cathedral to shoot the interior and here is one shot of the organ. In May I ventured out into Wensledale where I visited the creamery, (more cheese Grommit!). Here is a shot of a hilltop copse that always catches my eye when driving along the valley. I have shot this copse before but this time found a different viewpoint.

What a big show off!
Last weekend we went for a drive in the country. Fortunately I drive a car with automatic transmission where the left leg is suplus to requirements (until you get ot of the car of couse 🙂 ). Even then my left peg is next to useless anyway.
We had, on a previous outing, spotted what we thought was a little country store that we made a mental note of and so went back to visit. It turned out to be a restaurant that sells gifts etc. and it was packed out too 😦
So while we were in the area we decided instead to go to Nunnington Hall for afternoon tea and cake (such decadence). Anyway the sun was shining and so we went into the tea garden. While there we were visited by a female peacock (peahen??) who seemed to really enjoy cake crumbs, which is basically what I was left with after feeding this thing.
It seems she was not alone and into the garden strolls Mr. Peacock and he was displaying and strolling in between the tables. Have you ever had your hair brushed by peacock feathers? Anyhow I took the opportunity to break out the camera and take a couple of shots. I had almost forgotten how to do this but, well, the pics are below.
Hobbled
Hello all, well I have been out of action (again!) for the past six or seven weeks and have not been out and about at all which is why my slow-paced blog is now a no paced blog. This time I have damaged ligaments and cartilage in my left knee. I am rattling with pain killers too, such fun 😦 When I am fully recovered from this one I am thinking of finding a way to graft the grip from my stick, pictured below, on to one of my cameras as I am so used to it!
Cool curves and warm sunshine.
Well it has been, and still is, a miserable winter but surely the warmth of Spring is only a few weeks away. Photographically I have had a very quiet time of it. It has been either to bad to venture out into the gale force winds and torrential rain or I haven’t been up to par myself.
Here are a couple of images that represents the anticipated change in weather and temperature as we make the transition from winter to spring.
Nidderdale Evening Sky
Grim
I took this shot one day in mid November at midday. It was one of those days that it never seems to get light. The sky was very threatening, the birds were circling round and round in the wind and so I tried to capture the mood of the day. The desire to get up and get out is losing out to the instinct to just hunker down this last few weeks. Christmas is almost upon us now and I am already looking forward to Spring!
Wishing everyone a happy Christmas and a great 2016.
The Lady and the Lamp
An abstract vision I had from seeing three things in the living room, the curtain, the lamp and the lady. I brought them together and took a picture that realised the image I wanted to make. It’s surprising what a bit of winter cabin fever can draw out of you when you feel starved of photo opportunities.
The beginning and the end . . .
. . . of October. Here are a couple of images I made in October. The first one is a scene at the arboretum at Castle Howard on a wonderful sunny day at the start of October spent among the autumn colours. The second one is at the end of October and this was shot on a walk through the church yard at Masham as the mist rolls in from the fields. Quite a difference in conditions, it may be a few weeks before I am wandering around North Yorkshire, unless we get a miracle change in the weather 🙂
Staring into Nidderdale
With all the bad stuff we see on the news these days you need somewhere to clear your mind and just stare at a distant landscape. I was at this high point at Brimham Rocks doing just that when this fellow walked by and clambered up onto the rock in front of me. My first thought was “Is there nowhere where I can just be alone” but then ironically it made a picture that shows what I was doing, all alone and staring out into the distance.
