This shot is from the Cleveland way as it wends its way along the cliff tops approaching Ravenscar on the Yorkshire Coast. The building on the cliffs is at the edge of the village and the headland in the background is Robin Hood’s Bay.

Still Water at the Strid!
Paid another visit to the Strid recently. Where the River Wharfe passes through Strid Wood it is choked down to flow between the rocks and in wet weather it can get pretty dangerous. It was in a calmer mood on this visit and I took this shot using an 8 second exposure at f22 and ISO 50 to flatten and smooth the water and get the trails.
Waving the colours.
Last week I was in Wharfedale visiting Bolton Abbey. While amongst the splendour of the Abbey, nestled in a river valley alongside the River Wharfe with its famous stepping stones alongside a wooden footbridge I found myself nose down in the dirt. No I didn’t fall over but rather I was taken by a single Dandelion forcing and stretching out of the rocks and waving its little yellow flag in competition with England’s flag of St George atop the Abbey. Sometimes I like to pick out the little details instead of the grand views, they are just as important.

Richmond
I was soaring above Richmond, North Yorkshire, in my micro light aircraft last week. Only joking, the light aircraft that could get off the ground with me on board hasn’t been built 🙂 Arriving in Richmond I was surprised to find the town centre had been turned into a fair ground. I got a detail shot at ground level, then turned my legs to jelly by ascending the Castle Keep to get my second shot.

Rape Crop in Full Flower
After visiting Thorp Perrow last week and walking through the Bluebell woods we drove away along a country lane and there were quite a number of fields given over to growing Rape. I really like the golden glow of these fields and they really stand out in a landscape, especially when seen from a distance. Driving along these lanes I often see some great views and pull over if I can to make a picture. A lot of the time though the lanes are very narrow and nowhere to safely pull over and the opportunity is missed.
A walk in a Bluebell wood.
My last post was from a walk in a small wood in North Yorkshire, Jeffrey Wood. This post is from a much more Spring like day while we were walking in Thorp Perrow arboretum near Bedale, North Yorkshire. It’s a really nice place to visit and a favourite place of ours for a bit of a leg stretch in beautiful surroundings.
A walk in the woods
On Sunday we woke up to very heavy mist and cold temperatures. Everywhere was wet and uninviting. We put the heat up, put the TV on and waited for the promised bright afternoon to arrive. At lunchtime it was still foggy and I said to my wife, “I know how to make this clear up, I’ll go for a walk in the woods, there should be some good atmospheric shots to be found”. Sure enough, no sooner than I got into the woods than sod’s law came into force and the sun broke through and the mist started to lift! Here is one of my shots with the mist disappearing before me 😐
