Years Start

I was cheered up this morning with the arrival of our poppy from the display at the Tower of London, complete with dirt and grit and rust on the steel stem. It will have to stay indoors with me for the rest of the winter out of the cold wet and windy weather we are having.

This year has started off as slow (in terms of my photography) as the last year ended. I have not had a great late autumn and early winter, flu, then chesty cough, then a common cold. I have ordered a new immune system from the doctor but I don’t hold out much hope, I still haven’t received my new skeleton I asked him for 🙂  OK whinge over.

Anyhow anything we may feel down about these days soon fades into insignificance when set alongside recent events and even more so with what the display at the Tower so graphically represented.

Years end.

Walked out into the garden and found these three images. So I thought I would share them with you and wish a happy, peaceful and prosperous new year from me and mine to you and yours.

Ripon Cathedral – Take Two

At the beginning of December I made a post that had a picture of a view of Ripon Cathedral, see that post at Ripon Cathedral

A complimentary comment was made that the treatment I gave my shot in post made it look timeless, like something I could have bought in a car boot sale. I have received that “timeless” observation on other images of mine. In this case I said that I had another version that looked even more like something I could have picked up in a car boot sale. It is one where I made it look like a really old, worn out, chipped enamel sign, and here it is, along with the original colour shot after basic RAW edits.

Autumn garden detail

Autumn is doing it’s thing and there is precious little colour just now. We do have some Cyclamen brightening up one or two spots. I went out into the garden this morning to search out some ‘detail’ shots that lend themselves to mono conversion. Click an image for the slide show.
