This is more or less the way that Henry VIII left this ancient Abbey after the dissolution of the Monastries in England, Wales and Ireland almost 500 years ago. The Abbey had been on this site for a shade under 400 years prior to the dissolution.

I took this shot on a floodlit evening, Fountains Abbey is floodlit and remains open to the public until after dark each year and is a truly atmosheric experience.
